Posts from that first blog

A Beginning

Arms out-flung...ready to leap!  Or run--or, at least, step forward. I am finally stringing together words for my first  post of this blog, taking these first wobbly steps in this new expedition of discovery.  Welcome along on this journey of mine as I explore just what the Lord has next for me as I put my art "out there" for folks to enjoy, and hopefully (lop-sided grin here) buy.  Selling bits and pieces of my work is nothing new, but I am stuttering and starting with this new way of connecting with new friends.

Even the day, today, is itself perfect for a new venture:  spring is teasing new growth into bloom and the wind is gusting and freshening the whole wide green horizon.  As I add images of my work I hope you will enjoy seeing what is showing up on my canvases (and stone and whatever) these days.  Jesus said, "Out of the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks."  Maybe, just maybe, I'm not too far off in saying. too, that out of the fullness of the heart, the hand paints..

Inspringration

How can any creative person bumble through spring without being inspired? Green is unfolding onto green in more shades than we have names for and and Monet's words keep echoing in my mind:  "every gardener is a landscape painter."

Delving in the dirt always makes me want to paint, not just with the colors and textures of the plants I nestle into the earth, but with watercolors or whatever pigment is at hand as well. Here're a couple of photos; an acrylic, a tile painted for Mother's Day....

Paint Under My Fingernails

Yep, paint under my fingernails is always a good sign! For me, the creative process is hopelessly messy.  So, the more crumpled paper towels, uncapped tubes of paint and smears of pigment the better! I've always loved the Picasso quote, "The great thing is to do them, do them, do them!"  Sort of Art meets Nike commercial...just do it!

Amazing, though, the banal excuses I come up with to put off the truly important stuff in my life...Painting is necessary to my health and balance.  Even more important is sharing my faith.  Of course painting is an avenue for me to speak about the love of God--guess I should away from the computer and get back to the canvases!

Searching, seeking God's will in this endeavor, this ministry.  Immersing myself in my art like this, I want to be so careful that the focus doesn't somehow become me.  A very fine line with such a personal expression!  The goal is to express what the Holy Spirit speaks and not what Adriann says...I don't want to find my creative voice, I've heard it, it sounds like a clashing cymbal.  My desire is that God's voice finds me and sings through the colors and images that spill from my brush.
